2021 Retail Events

April 24- May 1 Craft Optimism, an online marketplace produced by the Smithsonian Institution in collaboration with Honoring the Future, features work by American artists who use sustainable materials and practices or who create work that educates the public about climate change. A portion of sales is donated to the Smithsonian Womens’ Committe; funds raised from Craft Optimism will be used in grant programs to benefit education, outreach and research programs that address a Smithsonian Grand Challenge: Understanding and Sustaining a Biodiverse Planet. Fiber Forum at Textile Studio, 143 Grand Ave, Saratoga Springs NY 12866

Fiber Forum will be a one-day educational celebration of all the fiber arts to be held on the grounds of Textile Studio. The yards and porches will be filled with fiber artists and their equipment- including a weaver, spinner, machine knitter, quilter, silk painter, felter, and paper maker. Saratoga Bridges, who has a weaving program for their adult day-hab clients, will be a major participant. We will feature their weaving students working on handlooms with a display of their handwoven products. Along with these artists, we will be hosting a sheep shearer and a team of weavers and spinners competing in a sheep to shawl contest!

This event serves to promote the fiber arts by enabling our visitors of all ages and abilities to watch live demonstrations and participate in each craft with the guidance of the fiber artist.
